The Glowing Smiles 5k run / walk and kids fun dash is a fundraiser for the Lina Vergara Memorial Scholarship at UW-Oshkosh. Lina had a passion for teaching and caring for everyone’s needs. The scholarship will benefit elementary education students who share Lina’s desire to teach and assist others, especially those students at UW-Oshkosh that are adjusting to campus life or are struggling emotionally with the challenges they often face in college. Please register today and check back for event updates. We're also on Facebook.

We want to thank previous participants and sponsors from the bottom of our hearts for your tremendous support. Your contribution has not only been a tribute to our daugther and sister Lina Vergara, but will also benefit elementary education students who share Lina’s desire to teach and assist others, especially those students at UW-Oshkosh.

Thanks to your generous donation, we were able to award the first 2013 recipients of the Lina Vergara Memorial Endowment Scholarship to Elizabeth Cookle and Cindybel Arias-Casteñeda!

Lina's Story

Lina was only 20 years old when an accident took her life while she was rafting on the Wolf River. She loved life and nature, and she had a special passion for children. Lina wanted to become a third grade teacher, so after she graduated from Middleton High School, she enrolled at UW-Oshkosh and was about to start her junior year. Once she graduated, her goal was to teach kids and encourage them to build a better world. Please follow the link below to find out more about the three actions Lina's family decided to take after her sudden departure.
